At Microsoft Convergence 2015 on 16th – 19th March, Microsoft Dynamics representatives showcased some of the coming features for the next NAV release, code named ‘Corfu’, due this autumn. In 2007 NAV’s install base was roughly 60,000, today it tops 110,000 and Microsoft’s push to a ‘mobile-first, cloud-first’ world is set to further increase the appeal of Dynamics NAV.
Dynamics NAV Corfu Update
Marko Perisic, Director of Program Management for Dynamics NAV, said this autumn’s NAV ‘Corfu’ release will be easier and less costly to upgrade to compared to previous NAV upgrades.
“The way we think about upgrades in NAV is more as an oil change,” he said, comparing earlier upgrades (such as with NAV 2009) to more of an engine overhaul. “The 2009 upgrade seemed like an expensive thing. Is it going to be like that at the end of the year? The answer is No. It’ll be significantly cheaper.”
Two coming Corfu enhancements in particular stood out in Perisic’s presentation. One was enhanced workflow functionality. “We’re starting to understand what kind of power we’re harvesting with the data we have in our systems,” he said. “Workflow is the first step in that investment. It understands the data and can proactively provide recommendations so you don’t have to do it yourself.”
The other coming NAV Corfu enhancement is an increased capability to handle paper records via optical character recognition (OCR) and document scans and images. “We like to think it’s a paperless world,” he said. “But the reality is there’s a lot of paper around us. And when you’re doing business, there’s certainly a lot of paper around us. So we’re bringing you this utility that allows you to manage that paper – to easily scan that paper and bring it within the workflow of your ERP solution.”
